Rockwall Boys and Girls Club
The Rockwall Sport Flyers is working with the children at the Boys and Girls Club of Rockwall. In June of 2008, RSF had their first chance to interact with the Boys and Girls Club when they presented a demonstration of radio controlled aviation. They covered the basics of aviation and remote control flight. One of the RSF members also gave an outdoor flight demonstration. The kids got the chance to touch and feel all types of RC planes and helicopters. In March of 2009, RSF had their second event at the Boys and Girls Club, when the club held their first ever indoor Fun Fly in their [Boys and Girls Club] gymnasium.
The members of RSF helped an enthusiastic group of youngsters build rubberband propelled aircraft made out of tissue paper and balsa sticks. In addition to learning about safely using razor blades to cut the balsa and commercial grade superglue to turn the sticks into aircraft, the kids learned the value of patience and some of the basic principles of flight. As soon as their planes were built, the boys and girls were able to test their flying skills in the gym. Soon after the test flying began, our new “students” were quickly picking up repair skills as well.
While building their aircraft, the kids and adult spectators alike were able to watch flight demonstrations performed by members of the Rockwall Sport Flyers.
